EXPO-2017 presented in Abu Dhabi
A Kazakh delegation is participating at the 6th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the 9th World Future Energy Summit held within the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Summit, held till January 21, is mainly aimed at discussing ways of global energy transformation and developing joint solutions for generating future energy.
As Azamat Abdraimov, Deputy Director of the EXPO-2017 Commissioner Secretariat, noted “the main goal of participation of Kazakhstan in these forums is to demonstrate transition of Kazakhstan to green economy and the theme of the EXPO “Future Energy” that interrelates with the Abu-Dhabi Summit theme. The Summit is a good platform for attracting international participants and potential partners in the sphere of renewable energy sources to the Astana Exhibition”.
Within the visit, the Secretariat leadership held bilateral negotiations with the heads of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Dubai EXPO-2020 Committee, UAE National Media Council and ministers of energy of a number of states.
During the meeting with the IRENA Executive Director Mohamed El–Farnawany, the sides discussed the current state of cooperation and participation terms of the International Organization representatives at the EXPO-2017 Second Participants Meeting to be held on February 24-25 in Astana. Mr. El-Farnawany informed that his candidature had been approved as the IRENA Commissioner for the EXPO-2017 and noted relevance of the theme “Future Energy” following the Paris Climate Change Conference 2015.
At the meeting with Omar Shehadeh, Dubai EXPO-2020 Vice President for International Affairs, the sides discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of cooperation between the JSC NC “Astana EXPO-2017” and the “Dubai EXPO-2020” Higher Committee to ensure regular exchange of information and synchronize preparation works to hold the Exhibitions.
During the meeting with the Commissioner of the UAE National Section, Deputy Director-General of the National Media Council, Salem Al Ameri, the sides discussed technical issues of the UAE pavilion location, its design and participation of the UAE companies. Mr. Al Ameri confirmed his participation at the EXPO-2017 Second Participants Meeting.
In addition, in order to attract international participants to the EXPO-2017 bilateral meetings were held on the margins of the IRENA Assembly with the heads of energy ministries of Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Spain, India, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Uruguay.
